Who we are

For more than 60 years, Canadian Premier has been committed to providing financial security to Canadians and their families in the face of uncertainties. We now insure over 2 million Canadians and families coast-to-coast. Our insurance products are available through financial institutions, retailers, and other businesses. Canadian Premier is an A rated insurance company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. We are a wholly owned and independently operated subsidiary of Securian Financial Group.


Suzette Huovinen

Chief Executive Officer

Suzette has been a part of the Securian Financial family since 1997 and has held a number of progressive leadership positions within the company, most recently as Senior Vice President, Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer. She brings to Canadian Premier more than 20 years of experience in risk management and actuarial oversight, including playing a key role in developing Securian’s enterprise risk management program. An active supporter of the community, Suzette has served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Children’s Museum and Stepping Stone Theatre for Youth Development, both non-profit organizations based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Anne Bjornson

Director, Credit Union Operations

Anne has been instrumental in setting up Canadian Premier’s insurance operations function as well as establishing the practices, procedures and policies needed to deliver service excellence. A strong supporter of professional and personal development, she encourages lifelong learning for herself and her team as a powerful tool to navigate and excel in an increasingly complex environment. With over 30 years’ experience, Anne applies integrity and compassion as well as a solid service delivery as keys to strengthening partnerships and building trusted relationships.

Dwight Rodgers

Director, Bank and Retail Operations

Dwight has more than 20 years' experience coaching, developing and managing high performing teams. His collaborative approach to client and customer experience ensures Canadian Premier continues to achieve operational and service excellence across its Bank and Retail operations. Dwight works with an eye to future; balancing the organization’s current and future needs by seeking opportunities to apply new and emerging ideas to the benefit of our business and customers. Dwight is an active mentor for new to Canada professionals, and participates in a number of industry groups.

Graham Kent

Chief Actuary & Chief Risk Officer

Graham is a recognized leader of change and a champion of using education, technology and communication to advance management understanding of industry challenges and how actuarial assumptions are set. He is renowned for his ability to quickly sort through complex issues, see relevant patterns and come to accurate conclusions. Graham believes strongly that in knowledge there is power, and that understanding the risk decisions we make is key to helping our partners thrive.

Rob Robinson

SVP, Affinity Insurance Solutions

Rob is a 30-year veteran of the insurance industry with experience in strategy development, sales, client management, marketing, product development and project management. Rob believes in the power of collaboration to drive business, by using a consultative approach to developing customized solutions. Rob's strong commitment to serving customer needs, and developing and implementing business strategies to achieve corporate goals, continues to help lead the business strategy and execution for affinity products.

Sandy Olejniczak

VP, Human Resources

Sandy has more than 20 years of experience within the human resources management, financial services and technology sectors. Her energy, vision, and proactive approach is an asset to the organization, and her commitment to continuous improvement in organizational practices and employee experience has helped foster a collaborative and positive work environment for all employees. Sandy has broad experience across all HR disciplines including talent acquisition, workforce planning, leadership development, employee relations, performance management, and compensation and benefits.

Shirley Chen

Chief Financial Officer

Shirley has more than 20 years of leadership experience in financial services, and expertise in funding, financing, reporting and strategic planning. With a proven record of supporting company growth strategies, Shirley oversees all financial functions at Canadian Premier. As an active member of many professional associations throughout her career, Shirley believes in the philosophy of putting people first, which forms the foundation of achieving sustainable business growth and financial strength.
